YouthLab is the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art’s programme for young people who are interested in contemporary art and a career in the arts and culture sector – as artists, curators or arts professionals. For 2020 we are revamping our YouthLab programme and developing a new young people’s collective which will:

  • Work on ‘live’ art briefs and projects
  • Develop a range of professional skills by developing and delivering art projects
  • Create and curate content for CFCCA’s programme and digital platforms

The programme is led by CFCCA’s Programme and Engagement Coordinator Alistair Small, and artist Nicola Colclough. The collective will work on a series of projects supported by CFCCA and partner organisations, beginning in February 2020. If you are interested, come along to our Autumn Gathering on Tuesday 26th November 5-7PM, to find out more.

Previous YouthLab projects include YouthLab Summer 2019: a 5-day experiment in art-making and collectivity. Together we explored how art can function to change society, how we can re-think and take ownership of art galleries and public spaces, and discovered alternative approaches to art education through a mix of practical hands-on workshops and creative discussions – including guerrilla gardening, experimental public furniture building, film-making and print-making.

NB: Under 18s must register in advance, and complete the registration form available at, or bring the completed form with them on the 26th. CFCCA is an Arts Award Supporter: participants in YouthLab are able to gain Arts Award Bronze and Silver, depending on the nature of the project.
