From Monday 26 October to Saturday 13 December, admire a new artwork displayed on the façade of our building! Visible daily in our Digital Gallery, a screen on the outside of our building, the work is part of a new art trail that celebrates Manchester’s creative culture through featuring artists’ works in windows, venues and spaces across the city centre.

Created by the team behind the award-winning Bee in the City event, 50 Windows of Creativity will transform the city’s windows and spaces into an innovative art gallery which takes you on a creative journey around the city. The displays feature multiple art forms, from fine art and photography to ceramics, crafts, mosaics and murals – all curated by talented artists, designers, makers and collectives with a connection to Greater Manchester.

CFCCA are delighted to be showing the work Emperor’s Garden by Lydia Meiying. Inspired by traditional Chinese design, Emperor’s Garden depicts the mythical and powerful creature, the Phoenix, or Fenghuang. A symbol of eternity and foreverness, this repeat pattern portrays the elegant bird dancing forever amongst the foliage.

Lydia Meiying is a freelance Pattern Designer and Illustrator based in Manchester who has been designing a colourful world of whimsical designs for stationery, homeware and apparel for over 10 years. Lydia is inspired by children’s stories, fables and the wonders of the natural world. She creates her designs by hand drawing, cutting and collaging, painting and printing before transferring to her computer where her unique designs can become a multitude of beautiful useful items. If you like her work, pay a visit to the CFCCA shop where we are selling some of her beautiful cards, prints, jewellery and gifts.

Emperor’s Garden can be admired daily in our Digital Gallery, an exterior screen on the right from our entrance, between 6am and 11pm.

Visitors taking part in the trail will be able to explore the works via the 50 Windows of Creativity app, available to download on the App Store, and an illustrated trail map that you can download or collect from our reception.

All pieces on display will be available to buy directly from the artist or maker. The project culminates with an auction which will raise money for the artists involved and The Lord Mayor of Manchester Charity Appeal Trust – We Love MCR Charity.

50 Windows of Creativity is created by Wild in Art in partnership with Manchester City Council. Event Partners include Autotrader and Dandara Living.
